Former Chelsea captain John Terry says Jack Grealish should consider leaving Manchester City this summer.
Terry has previously worked closely with Grealish, having been assistant manager at Aston Villa, and he has suggested that it may be time for the winger to consider a transfer in order to get regular first-team football:
“Knowing Jack, Jack’s not the type of player who wants to be sitting on the bench. I don’t think it’s good for him. He’s at his best playing week-in, week-out, dominating.”
“He’s one of those players who can get at defenders and drive teams forward. He needs to start playing and looking at his options. Man City haven’t been great this year, and he’s still not getting a look in. So, from his side, I’d be a bit worried and think I need to get out.”
What has happened to Grealish this season?
The 29-year-old has only made six starts in the Premier League. Some of that can be attributed to injuries but, it should be pointed out that he has made the matchday squad for all but 5 league games over the course of the campaign.
Manager Pep Guardiola has left Grealish on the bench for seven of the last ten matches he has been selected for, suggesting there is more to it than simply fitness problems.
Which club would sign the Man City star?
Grealish has been tipped for an emotional return to Villa who he left four years ago for £100m. Tottenham have been touted as another potential destination.
The likelihood of him staying at the Etihad is said to be pretty remote. Last month, he was named as one of eight first-team players who could be offloaded in the coming months as part of a major squad revamp.
