Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has suggested that Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has a slight edge over Newcastle’s Alexander Isak in terms of ability.
The 26-year-old was treading a fine line as he is an international teammate of Haaland’s, while he played with Isak at Real Sociedad. Asked to assess the qualities of the two strikers, Odegaard replied:
“Both are good in and around the box and score a lot of goals. They are a little different in their style of play, but both are dangerous goal scorers.”
“I have been lucky enough to play with both of them and found it enjoyable. If you look at what Erling has done and the records, he sets all the time, it speaks for itself. But it is clear that Isak has had a very good season and is a fantastic player.”
Haaland’s Premier League record at City
The City forward has found the back of the net 84 times in 95 appearances over the past three seasons, which is a phenomenal return.
In contrast, over the same period of time, Isak has scored 50 in 77 games. The goals-to-game ratio is in Haaland’s favour, averaging a goal every 1.13 matches to Isak’s 1.54.
Odegaard may soon have Isak as a teammate at club level
If reports are to be believed, Arsenal are lining up a summer offer for the Sweden international but Newcastle won’t let him leave without a fight.
The Magpies are expected to hold out for as much as £150m. That would smash the British transfer record, whilst also amounting to 3 times what City paid for Haaland.
There is no doubt that the Premier League champions got an incredible deal when they signed the forward from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022.
