West Ham United star Edson Alvarez has just surely made up Graham Potter’s mind regarding a move to sign Jonathan David.
Edson Alvarez hasn’t been anywhere near his best for West Ham this season, but Graham Potter is clearly a big fan of the Mexican midfielder.
Potter has already highlighted how good West Ham star Edson Alvarez is at taking new instructions on board quickly.
The 27-year-old moved to the London Stadium from Ajax in the summer of 2023 for around £33 million.
It has actually been claimed that West Ham could be looking to sell Alvarez in the summer.
However, his performance for Mexico on Friday proved that he could actually be a vital player for the Hammers.
Edson Alvarez gives Graham Potter a clear Jonathan David answer
Mexico beat Canada 2-0 out in California in the early hours of Friday morning.
West Ham ace Edson Alvarez was deployed as a centre-back for Mexico by Javier Aguirre in the CONCACAF Nations League showdown.
And the 27-year-old former Ajax man had Jonathan David in his back pocket the entire game.
West Ham want to sign Jonathan David on a free transfer this summer.
However, Potter may well think differently about bringing the Canadian to the London Stadium now, after Alvarez locked him down at SoFi Stadium.
David had zero shots on target, lost possession nine times, made zero key passes and made no successful dribbles.

Meanwhile, Alvarez made one tackle, one interception and a whopping 13 clearances. He wasn’t dribbled past once and won four out of five duels (Sofascore).
If the Hammers midfielder locked down David so easily, is he really the striker we should be looking to sign? I’m no so sure.
Only two ways West Ham can realistically sign Jonathan David
If Potter does decide to press on with his interest in signing David, there are only two ways he will realistically be able to get a deal done for him.
Considering the amount of competition the Hammers face for the Canada international, Potter has only two viable options.
He can either sell David an unbelievably exciting project, or convince the Hammers owners to make an incredibly lucrative contract offer to the 25-year-old.
As already mentioned though, should West Ham really be pushing so hard to sign Jonathan David after Edson Alvarez had him in his back pocket?
Perhaps the Hammers should be looking elsewhere.
