West Ham United sold Dimitri Payet back in 2017, and we haven’t seen anything like him since.
The West Ham fans were incredibly angry with Dimitri Payet, when he forced a move away from the London Stadium to join Marseille more than eight years ago now.
Back in 2022, Payet explained that he left West Ham because of family reasons.
Payet’s brilliance was undermined by the way that he pushed for an exit from the London Stadium in January 2017.
However, in fairness to him, it’s no surprise he wanted to leave really is it?
The board failed to adequately back Slaven Bilic in the transfer market, and Payet was an incredibly ambitious player.
The now 37-year-old bagged a really impressive 15 goals and 22 assists in 60 games for the Hammers. It’s worth remembering that he didn’t play in a great West Ham team either!
Now West Ham have a chance to sign our very own new Payet…
Rayan Cherki can be West Ham new Dimitri Payet
France under-21s beat England’s youngsters 5-3 on Friday night.
And Rayan Cherki absolutely ran the show.
The 21-year-old Lyon star put on an elite display, providing two assists and scoring France’s final goal of the night.
Cherki got an 8.9 rating on Sofascore. He had 79 touches, registered a pass completion rate of 89%, made three key passes and four dribbles.

The young Frenchman is a truly stunning talent. He has all of the attributes that Dimitri Payet possessed.
The way that the Lyon star glides around the pitch evokes memories of Payet in his heyday. The young Frenchman is a maverick in every sense of the word, and is somewhat of a throwback to a bygone era of players who seek to thrill the fans more than anything else.
Graham Potter should be going all out to sign him this summer.
West Ham can sign Rayan Cherki for bargain fee
The good news is that the Lyon starlet will be easily attainable for the Hammers this summer.
It was claimed back in December that West Ham can sign Rayan Cherki for just £12.4 million.
That’s because Lyon are in dire straits financially and the 21-year-old will be out of contract at the Groupama Stadium in the summer of 2026.
West Ham have to leave nothing on the table when it comes to trying to sign Cherki.
The young Frenchman could be our new Payet.
