It’s only an hour from Liverpool and it’s becoming a bit of a hub to spot celebrities
A cosy Cheshire country pub that serves delicious roast dinners has become a go-to spot for Liverpool and Everton players, with a number of city WAGs also spotted at the trendy haunt. The Dog at Peover is located on Wellbank Lane in Over Peover, just a one hour drive from Liverpool.
Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Cheshire countryside, The Dog is a classic country pub offering freshly prepared, locally sourced dishes, along with a choice of ales, wines, and cocktails. Dating back to the 18th century, the pub serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as generous Sunday roasts.
The Dog has a large indoor seating area, with cosy open fires to curl up next to in the winter, and a beer garden for soaking up the sun during the warmer months. There’s also an outdoor bar, so customers can enjoy a crisp pint or a refreshing cocktail without having to leave the summer sunshine.
The pub is dog-friendly and family-friendly, with bookings and walk-ins welcome each day. And in recent years, the trendy Cheshire spot has welcomed a steady stream of Premier League footballers and their families, with a number of sports stars spotted at the venue on social media.
There are three separate adult menus for dining at The Dog, including the breakfast menu, daily menu and Sunday menu. There is also a children’s menu, with even smaller portions available for toddlers. One of the most popular fixtures on the menu at the pub is the selection of roast dinners.
The beef, pork loin and turkey dinners come in two portion size options, with the smaller meals priced at £15.50 and £15.95, and the larger dinners priced at £18.95 and £19.95. There’s also a mixed roast on offer for £19.50, which includes pork, turkey and beef with all the trimmings and a Yorkshire pudding.
Diners can add lamb to any of the roasts for £3, with the option to add a portion of cauliflower cheese for £5. Other sides on the Sunday menu include ‘posh chips’ with truffle and parmesan (£6.50), Nigella infused onion rings (£4.50) and buttered greens (£4).
There are also children’s roasts for kids aged 12 and under, priced at £11.50, or classics like fish fingers, fries and garden peas (£10.50) and bangers and mash with garden peas (£9.50).
Breakfast is served at The Dog from 7am to 11am every weekday, 8am to 11am Saturdays and 8am to 10.30am Sundays. Dishes on the breakfast menu include a full English (£11.95), Manx kippers (£8.95) and eggs royale (£10.05).
Customers can also stay at the pub, with six rooms available to book, each named after a different dog breed. The Boxer, The Labrador, The Retriever, The Dalmatian, The Westie and The Shepard are all ensuite rooms that are available on a double or single occupancy basis, with a choice of breakfast for overnight guests.
Offering visitors a gateway to the Cheshire countryside, the pub is conveniently close to Tatton Park and the Cheshire Plain, as well as being within easy reach of the Peak District National Park and various other attractions.

Tim D said: “We booked The Dog for Sunday lunch as our daughter was visiting from London and mentioned this in our online booking. The Dog was extremely busy though we were seated very quickly and given a beautiful table in the bay window. The atmosphere, service and food was outstanding with plenty of choice. I would not hesitate to highly recommend The Dog to anyone, and will definitely be revisiting.”
Paul H said: “We visited with another couple. It was a while since we had been, and I was really satisfied with everything from start to finish. It was a pleasant summer evening and, as we walked from the car park and passed the outdoor bar, there was live music playing and a happy, party feel about it.
“The restaurant felt cosy and welcoming and we were shown to a nice table. Our drinks order was quickly taken and served and thereafter the service was efficient, professional and very friendly. The menu offered a good choice and there were also some specials.
“For a starter I chose the Handmade Spring Rolls with the filling of the day, which was delicious lamb. The dish was beautifully presented and very tasty. For main, I had the Steak Stroganoff which was generous and absolutely superb. Other mains included the Fish Pie (looked really good) and the Fish and Chips (squeals of delight from the ladies about the gorgeous crispy batter).
“Only two of us could manage desserts and both of those were declared excellent. All in all a really enjoyable evening of pleasant ambience, good service and delicious, well-presented food. We’ll definitely be returning soon!”
