Jamie Carragher insists Pep Guardiola is one of the best managers EVER as he backs Man City to complete a stunning Treble… while Tony Adams hails ‘incredible’ Jack Grealish and John Stones following their title triumph
Jamie Carragher has backed Manchester City to claim an historic Treble following their Premier League title triumph, insisting Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest managers of all time.
The prolific side were crowned champions on Saturday evening, after Arsenal suffered a bitterly disappointing 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest – which both secured their top-tier survival and ended the title-race.
Guardiola’s side came into the weekend knowing just one win from three remaining games – starting with Chelsea on Sunday – would secure them the title. But, in the end, they sealed a third-straight Premier League triumph without kicking a ball.
Though City got their celebrations underway immediately, having watched the Arsenal game together as a squad, there is plenty more work to do, with Inter Milan and Manchester United to come in the Champions League and FA Cup finals respectively.
City are favourites to win both clashes, and Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports following Arsenal’s defeat to Forest, backed the newly-crowned champions to do so.
Jamie Carragher believes Man City will win the Treble after their Premier League triumph
The pundit also insists Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest football manangers of all time
‘I think they will [win the Treble].’ Carragher said. ‘They will be big favourites going into the game against Inter Milan.
‘The same with the FA Cup final against Manchester United. It remains to be seen whether they can do it but it feels like almost every season they’re in with a shout getting to April or May to win a Treble.’
City have now won the Premier League in five of the last six seasons, with Liveprool pipping them to it in the 2019-20 campaign.
Carragher believes even Liverpool’s victory should worry the rest of the league, however, insisting Guardiola – who he says is one of the best managers in football history – has set an unprecedented standard.
He continued: ‘The worry for the rest of the league is the one season they didn’t win the Premier League, Liverpool won it. Liverpool had to win 26 and draw one of the first 27 games.
‘The standards are being raised so high by Pep Guardiola, I’d say. It’s not just Man City. With a different manager they wouldn’t be reaching these heights.
‘I think we are looking at one of the greatest managers of all time, and for me he makes the biggest difference to Man City.’

Tony Adams also hailed Man City as ‘unbelievable’ as he praised John Stones and Jack Grealish
Tony Adams, speaking alongside Carragher, also hailed City’s incredible ability to rotate their squad as he picked out Jack Grealish and John Stones as examples.
‘Unbelievable football club aren’t they,’ he said. ‘The resources they’ve got, what adjectives do you use.
‘Jack Grealish since he’s come back from the World Cup has been incredible. All round, one player goes out another comes in.
‘I love the rotation they do with John Stones popping in there one week. What an unbelievable football club.’
