Erik ten Hag has explained what position he thinks Jadon Sancho is best in.
Manchester United Football Club have made it into the Champions League. That was always the aim at the season’s start. Credit must go to the manager for securing that top four finish.
Slowly but surely, this squad will be overhauled into one that fits his style of play. Several members of the dressing room have uncertain futures at the club. Among them, Jadon Sancho.
The winger has struggled for any sort of consistency since moving to Manchester. It’s fair to say we haven’t seen his best form, though we have been given glimpses of his talent.
Now, while speaking to the media about the growth of Sancho over the season, Ten Hag has explained which position Sancho feels he operates best in; on the left.
Check out what Ten Hag had to say on the best position for Jadon Sancho:
“He can do both [wings], but I think he prefers to play on the left,” Ten Hag responded, when asked which wing he thinks is best for Sancho, per ManUtd.com.
“But we have seen [that] he is very good on the right as well.”
For what it’s worth, I believe Sancho can play in either wide spot at a similar level. He’s two-footed and can move in any direction, in any given scenario. He can also play in the ten.
I still think giving Sancho a real run in the team on the right would be beneficial, though. Marcus Rashford has the left-wing on lockdown when fit, while Antony is now going to be out for a couple of months. Sancho has two games to prove that he can make that right-hand side his own.
It’s a tricky situation. Sancho hasn’t really shown enough to start regularly for a club with title aspirations, but he has the ability to do so. Perhaps all he needs is a good run of games and then we’ll start to see him rediscover his Borussia Dortmund form.
