Mason Mount is willing to join Man United, if the Reds can agree a transfer fee with Chelsea.
Manchester United have a massive summer window on the horizon. Get it right and I genuinely believe the Reds could be City’s closest challengers next term.
Money has to be spent, regardless of who the owners are over the next few months.
Several names have already been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford. No doubt that stories will continue to flow. Over the last week, it’s Chelsea’s Mason Mount who is seemingly atop the Erik ten Hag wishlist.
The latest information on the brewing Mount to United saga comes from The Independent (subscription required). Without wanting to go too into detail behind their paywall, let’s give you the basics.
Apparently, the 24-year-old is ‘willing’ to sign for United this summer, amid interest from both Liverpool and Chelsea. The only obstacle being transfer price.
Chelsea are ‘insistent’ on receiving at least £55m to let Mount leave during this window, with United yet to meet that valuation, despite leading the race.
With one year left on Mount’s deal, it’s easy to see why United aren’t prepared to jump in head first and overpay, particularly when he’d be available for nothing next summer.
That said, there can be no doubt that Mount would be a superb piece of business if the Red Devils can get it done. He’d be perfect for this Ten Hag system, while offering United more depth in the midfield.
For what it’s worth, I genuinely believe this deal will be done. It may drag on for at least a couple of months, though United’s interest in Mount feels sincere.
