Kobbie Mainoo is set to be fit for pre-season, following an injury that isn’t thought to be serious.
Manchester United’s squad will look a whole lot different on the opening day of the Premier League season – assuming Erik ten Hag will get his wishes granted in the transfer market.
No doubt players will be signed, while others will be sold. We’ll also see some youth promotion, too. Amad, Facundo Pellistri and Kobbie Mainoo are all genuine options to become senior players this coming term.
The latter, who has recently been named Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year, certainly feels like one to keep an eye on.
Mainoo, from Manchester, was an integral part of the FA Youth Cup-winning side alongside Alejandro Garnacho. He’s now ready to take that next step.
The young man has been missing from the fold recently, due to injury. United have been tight-lipped on the nature and severity of the issue.
However, UtdDistrict sources have revealed some information. They, thankfully, describe the starlet’s injury as ‘not serious’, also revealing that Mainoo will be back to play a full part in pre-season.
This is honestly massive news. Mainoo is set for a huge summer, assuming he can impress during pre-season tour. I genuinely believe he’ll be granted opportunities by the manager in these friendly matches. If Mainoo plays well, there’s every chance he’ll become a fifth or sixth choice midfielder for the senior squad.
Mainoo has it all. He’s press resistant, great with the ball at feet, an excellent ball carrier and solid in the defensive aspects. You view him as the ideal long-term replacement for Christian Eriksen.
It’s great news that Mainoo will be playing a full part in pre-season, as the importance of getting a good summer under your belt cannot be understated.
