Along with signing new players during the summer transfer window, Bayern Munich will also look for a new sporting director. The Bavarian club decided to part ways with Hasan Salihamidzic last week due to poor results throughout the season.
Salihamidzic celebrated the Bundesliga title with players on Saturday after leaving the club on amicable terms. He was appointed as the Sporting Director of Bayern in six years. The former Bayern midfielder enjoyed success as Die Roten clinched a treble in 2019/20. However, he was also under immense scrutiny for a few poor transfer windows.
As per Sport1, Bayern was looking to bring former technical director Michael Reschke in a temporary role to replace Salihamidzic during the summer window. Reschke served three years between 2014 and 2017 in a technical director role at Die Roten.
The 65-year-old sporting director squashed these rumours quickly. While talking to DPA (via iMiaSanMia), Reshcke revealed that Bayern is looking for a long-term solution, so he is out of contention. He also insisted that there has been no contact or negotiations with Die Roten for a new role.
“I think FC Bayern are looking for a big, long-term solution. Since I’m very happy with my current job, that’s not a topic for me at the moment.”
“There was no contact between FC Bayern and me. Of course, I’m always in contact with the club from time to time. But there were never any talks regarding a job as a board member or sporting director.”
Bayern has been heavily linked with a move for Max Eberl. The Bavarian club reportedly held talks with him before appointing Hasan Salihamidzic as the sporting director in 2017. Eberl is currently working as a sporting director at RB Leipzig.
While talking to SportBild, Leipzig chief Oliver Mintzlaff admitted that Eberl is not going anywhere this summer. Die Roten may have to look elsewhere since Eberl signed a long-term deal with RB Leipzig in December 2022 after leaving Borussia Monchengladbach at the start of the same year.
Apart from Eberl, Bayern has also been linked with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Markus Krosche. However, Frankfurt has quickly put those rumours to bed. In an interview with Bild (via iMiaSanMia), Philip Holzer, head of Frankfurt’s supervisory board, ruled out Krosche’s departure in the summer. He also revealed that there is no release clause in Krosche’s contract.

Bayern may have to work this summer without a sporting director. They will need time to find the right candidate, so the onus of getting the recruitment spot on will be on new CEO Jan-Christian Dressen, Thomas Tuchel, Herbert Hainer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, and Uli Hoeness. Rummenigge was appointed to the supervisory board on Monday. He will have a big role to play in the recruitment as Die Roten looks to build a squad that can challenge on all fronts from next season.
