For the longest time, Bayern Munich’s identity was clear. After Uli Hoeness took over as general manager, the club experienced over 4 decades of being molded in the image of the enigmatic, controversial yet highly charismatic Hoeness. But that era has ended. With Hoeness now relegated to the supervisory board, someone else needs to step up and come up with the vision to lead Bayern to success.
The aforementioned supervisory board, and, by extension, Hoeness, showed their faith in Jan-Christian Dreesen by recently unanimously voting to tie him down to a contract until 2027. So what is this vision Dreesen has for the future? This is what the man himself had to say: “It’s important to me that we don’t lose our roots, our down-to-earth nature, our affinity with people, our approachability and cosmopolitanism,” Dreesen listed, via @iMiaSanMia. “It’s wonderful that our new coach is open to public training sessions; and we want to make that possible again more often.”
But, ultimately, success is what defines Bayern Munich: “In terms of football, our goal is to continue to be one of the top destinations in Europe. Our aim must always be to be in contention for victory in the Champions League.”
