Diogo Dalot has signed a new Man United contract until 2028.
Manchester United Football Club are preparing for an FA Cup final, with the Red Devils looking to add their second trophy of the season to te cabinet. The Old Trafford side face an in-form Manchester City, with no harder task in world football right now.
Ahead of that game, there’s some good news on the contract front. Diogo Dalot has put pen to paper on a new deal, committing himself to the Old Trafford side for the next five years.
The official club website confirmed the news this afternoon, with the 24-year-old all-smiles after committing his future to the Red Devils until 2028, with the option for a further year.
It always felt like Dalot was trending to staying at United, despite interest from elsewhere from some of Europe’s top sides.
Dalot started the season as United’s first-choice right-back, impressing for many months before suffering injury. That would allow Aaron Wan-Bissaka to pick up the mantle, before Dalot played some great minutes at left-back, showcasing his incredible versatility.
This feels like a good business decision. Dalot has just put in his best season as a United player, so tying him down now makes sense. He’s now got nothing to worry about financially for the rest of his life, allowing the young man to focus solely on improving as a football player.
If it doesn’t work out, Dalot would now command a high transfer fee, though I get the impression it could be Wan-Bissaka’s head that’s on the chopping block if the right offer comes in.
Congratulations, Diogo!
