It has been an eventful few days at Bayern Munich on and off the pitch. The Bavarian club dramatically retained the Bundesliga title by scoring a late winner against FC Koln on Saturday. Borussia Dortmund’s failure to beat Mainz at home handed Die Roten their 11th consecutive league title.
Despite winning the league title, it has been a disappointing season for Bayern. They narrowly got over the line in the Bundesliga and faced disappointing exits in the cup competitions. The poor performances on the pitch led to crucial changes at the club.
Bayern sacked CEO Oliver Kahn last week along with the sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic. Both have left the club with immediate effect. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge returned to the club on Tuesday as he was appointed to the supervisory board.
The departure of Salihamidzic will have an impact on the negotiations for contract renewals and transfers. Alphonso Davies and his agent had held promising talks with Salihamidzic for a new deal. However, the changes at the club will now delay the contract renewal of Davies. While talking to Bild (via iMiaSanMia), Davies’ agent revealed that things need to calm down at Die Roten to resume contract talks. He admitted that they will wait until 2024 for the talks to resume.
“It’s a chaotic time at Bayern Munich. I’m not sure what’s going on and who we’ll be talking to. There seems to be too much instability and uncertainty about the direction of the club. Maybe it’s better if we wait until 2024 and see how things develop with the club before we move on to a new contract.”
The comments from Davies’ agent are a big warning sign for Die Roten. The new hierarchy will have to hit the ground running when it comes to talks with him on a new deal. Real Madrid is reportedly interested in the Canadian full-back, while Manchester City has also been linked with Davies.
Alphonso Davies currently has two years left on his contract. Die Roten will be playing a dangerous game if they don’t find an agreement before the end of next season. Along with Jamal Musiala, Davies is considered one of the key players for Bayern in the long run. The new club hierarchy should try to resume contract talks with Davies in the summer to ease the situation.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Pavard has decided against signing a new deal at Bayern. The French defender has 12 months left on his contract. Die Roten will look to sell in the summer to avoid the risk of losing him on a free transfer in 2024.

The Bavarian club also finds themselves in a difficult contract situation with Lucas Hernandez. The French defender is reportedly leaning toward joining PSG. Hernandez also has 12 months left on his contract. The new club hierarchy has a lot of work to do during the summer, along with securing the future of key players.
