Harry Maguire is set to sit down with Erik ten Hag, for talks about his Man United future.
Harry Maguire is Manchester United club captain, though you wouldn’t know if if you’ve watched the games this season. The Englishman has spent the majority of his time sitting among the substitutes bench, watching Bruno Fernandes wear the armband for a large share of games.
The Englishman, who cost the club £80million, now has a decision to make, according to Erik ten Hag. After all, the defender wants to be playing week-in-week-out. United cannot offer him that luxury right now.
Well, ESPN have provided an update on the future of Maguire. Apparently, the 30-year-old United man is set for talks with Ten Hag to ‘discuss’ his Reds future, once the season ends.
Maguire’s frustrating campaign resulted in just eight Premier League starts, falling out of favour, despite being a regular under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Sources have told ESPN that United are ‘willing’ to listen to offers, anticipating interest from West Ham, who made their move for Maguire in January.
This isn’t to say United are desperate to ship Maguire out, with Ten Hag ‘open’ to keeping the Englishman. The feeling is that he will want to leave, in order to play regular football.
Sources also state that even if Maguire is sold, a new centre-back signing is not high on the list of priorities.
Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and even Luke Shaw can all play in that position.
United will want to recoup as much of the £80m fee as possible, with Maguire having a contract until 2025, with the option for another year.
In our opinion, it feels like the time is right to let Maguire leave.
