Man United are still showing an interest in signing Victor Osimhen.
Today has seemingly been a day of striker links. Harry Kane and Rasmun Hojlund’s names are on the back papers. However, Italy are not letting the Victor Osimhen to Manchester United rumours die down.
It’s Gazzetta dello Sport (Thursday print edition), with the translation via Sport Witness, sharing the latest information.
They state that United remain interested in signing the 24-year-old, who has just won a league title with Napoli over in Serie A.
Understandably, it’s stated that Napoli want to keep ahold of the Nigerian, with contract talks now underway. However, you get the impression that nothing seems close.
According to GdS, Osimhen’s agent has ‘received calls’ about a possible transfer, with Bayern Munich, Newcastle United and the Red Devils all showing an interest.
Napoli’s asking price remains around the £128m (€150m) mark, before they’ll even start negotiations, which is obviously a high price to pay.
The Naples side know that only a few teams can afford such a fee, in the hope they can put off as many potential suitors as possible.
United, at a push, could probably stretch to that amount of money, though I do not see them sanctioning a large chunk of their transfer budget on one player.
Now, it’s just a waiting game to see whether United firm up their interest with an official bid. I’d still assume that Kane remains the number one target, with Hojlund representing someone who arguably has just as much talent as Osimhen. The difference being that potential is currently untapped.
No doubt this saga will rumble on for a while, though I do not believe we’ll see Osimhen at Old Trafford this summer.
