Roy Keane believes Man United need to strengthen in two key positions this summer.
Manchester United Football Club were beaten by City on derby day. Though credit where it’s due, the lads put up a decent fight, all things considered.
Erik ten Hag can be proud of his first season in charge, though this is just the start. Our manager needs backing with big money this summer, in order to continue to close the gap on our local rivals.
The squad depth (or lack of) was on full display yesterday. Not only do United need quality starters in some areas, the dressing room also needs filling out.
There’s no surprises to learn that the two big needs remain; Goalkeeper and striker.
Now, one pundit in the form of Roy Keane has highlighted those two positions as the areas where United absolutely have to strengthen this summer. He’s ‘sick of saying it’, but it has been the case for multiple months now.
Here’s what Keano had to say in full:
“They need some other players and some strength in depth but they need a new goalkeeper and a world-class striker. I’m sick of saying it.” Keane is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
You add on the desperate need to add a midfielder, and suddenly, the transfer budget is more than likely gone. Adding a top class striker will easily cost the best part of £100m, assuming Ten Hag wants to go down that route. A keeper is probably about £50m, and another £50m for a midfielder.
With club ownership status still totally up in the air, Ten Hag has a serious task on his hands to bring in the players he absolutely requires. Let’s hope the club situation is solved sooner rather than later.
In terms of targets, Harry Kane, Diogo Costa and Mason Mount feels like the dream window, though it would probably be dependent on clearing some space off the wages (and in the dressing room) to sign all three.
