Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry is leading by example while following in the footsteps of other Germany legends such as Manuel Neuer, Philipp Lahm and Per Mertesacker by giving back to society. He recently set up the Serge Gnabry foundation and spoke about it per @iMiaSanMia.
On what motivated him to start the foundation: I’d had the idea for a while. As a professional footballer, I’m doing so well that I want to give something back. That’s how I was brought up. I’ve also seen what others I’ve played with can achieve. Manuel Neuer, for example, Philipp Lahm or Per Mertesacker. I took their example and have now set up my own foundation.”
Why he decided to focus on health: “I decided to focus on the topic of health because it is important to me personally. With my team, I want to help people who need support due to an illness. On the other hand, we want to contribute to improving the conditions in care and medical facilities.”
On current partnerships and future contributions: “We have a partnership with the Haunersche Children’s Hospital in Munich, and we are currently discussing the areas in which we can make a concrete contribution: Research, medical equipment, nursing staff…”
Serge Gnabry is surely making Bayern Munich fans proud via his work and may he continue to do so, on and off the pitch.
