Defender Kim Min-jae is ‘close’ to joining Man United this summer.
Erik ten Hag has identified many holes within the current squad. Perhaps there’s still much work to undertake in a solitary transfer window. No doubt the Manchester United boss will do his best.
With Harry Maguire seemingly edging towards the exit door, the need for a new centre-half remains. Kim Min-jae’s name seems to be the one that’s cropping up most often.
Daniele Longo, a journalist for Calciomercato, has taken to Twitter to share his latest information on United’s pursuit. He makes a pretty bold claim.
According to his sources, the 26-year-old is ‘close’ to joining United, with the Red Devils presumably agreeing a deal to activate his release clause at the start of July.
You’d imagine that behind the scenes, talks are talking place between United reps and the agents of Min-jae.
The centre-half, who won Serie A Defender of the Year, while winning a league title with Napoli, is going to be hot property. Make no mistake about it, United will not be the only party interested in signing the South Korean.
A player like this, for a reported fee of a little over £40m, does not come around very often. It’s probably why Ten Hag, though not desperate for a starting centre-half, is ready to make this move now.
Min-jae is absolutely someone who could be among the best centre-halves in the Premier League from day one. It’s easy to see why he’s viewed as the long-term successor for Raphael Varane.
What’s impressive to me is the fact that United seem intent on conducting their business early this year, getting these signings in before pre-season if at all possible, is absolutely crucial.
