Man United are not giving up hope on signing Declan Rice from West Ham United this summer.
Manchester United need reinforcements in a variety of key positions during this summer window, with Erik ten Hag outlining those targets to the board.
The Old Trafford side will have to spend a fair chunk of money to fully overhaul the squad. Whether the funds are available to do just that remains to be seen.
Declan Rice is a player who could finally be on the move from West Ham United over the next few months, though he will not come cheaply.
Football.london have provided the latest on Rice’s future. They still give off the impression that Arsenal are the favourites to complete a move.
However, their sources believe that United are ‘prepared to compete’ with their Premier League rival for the 24-year-old’s signature. Bayern Munich are also keen.
West Ham United value the midfielder at over £100m, while Arsenal are looking to pay around £90m to bring in the England international.
It’s claimed United are ‘ready to back’ Ten Hag over the next few months, with Rice and Mason Mount named as priorities for the Old Trafford outfit. Interestingly, the pair are childhood friends…
Perhaps Ten Hag wants to use their friendship to lure both players to Salford Quays, in a pair of moves that would send out a real statement to the rest of the league.
As a duo, it’d cost United in excess of £150m. I like the players, though I’m not sure that’s the best use of what feels like a large chunk of the Red Devils’ transfer budget.
It’s not like United have slouches in that area. One addition would be enough for the time being. I’d argue United need Mount more than they need Rice right now.
