Man United apparently explored the possibility of signing Declan Rice this summer.
Erik ten Hag is yet to make a signing this summer. Probably due to club ownership status still being up in the air. The sooner the takeover is complete, the better.
Manchester United are in a weird spot right now. They need an excellent transfer window in order to continue to close the gap on Manchester City atop the table. Signings in many areas are required.
Midfield, although probably not at the top of the list of needs, could do with further upgrades. Several names have been linked. No doubt those stories will continue until a middle-of-the-park signing is made.
I’d argue Declan Rice is the hottest commodity in that area of the field now that Jude Bellingham is off the table. The Guardian shared the latest on his future.
Sadly, for United fans, it looks like the Englishman is going to head to Arsenal, with The Gunners leading the race.
As per usual, United were given a mention. According to the report, United ‘looked at’ signing the 24-year-old Premier League midfielder this summer, along with Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Newcastle.
However, interest from rival clubs are ‘receding’ with Arsenal seemingly confident about getting this deal done, though it’ll cost somewhere around the £100m mark.
There is no doubt that Rice would have been an unreal piece of business. However, perhaps this is a blessing in disguise. Should United really be spending such a large chunk of their transfer budget on one midfielder? Probably not.
That said, it will be disappointing to watch Rice bossing it for Arsenal every weekend. He’s a top player in a real position of need for the Gunners.
