Man United are still keen on signing Jeremie Frimpong.
A right-back felt like a pressing need for Manchester United a few months ago, until Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s up-turn in form offered some clarity to Erik ten Hag.
Although not a top priority, it does seem as though the gaffer is still intent on upgrading in that position sooner rather than later.
Several names have been linked with a United switch, including Dutchman, Jeremie Frimpong.
All had gone relatively quiet on that front, until today, when Kicker (via Sport Witness) provided an update. Apparently, Frimpong wants a move to the Premier League this summer.
It’s stated that he is expected to leave Bayer Leverkusen at some point over the next few months, with Frimpong not signing a new deal with the Bundesliga club, beyond this 2025 contract.
The report claims Frimpong ‘wants to take the next step’ in his career, and would prefer to return to the UK, following spells at both Manchester City and Celtic.
Kicker explain that United are ‘interested’ in signing the 22-year-old, as they consider a move to bring in a new right-back.
On top of that the player ‘will leave’ if a ‘suitable’ offer comes in, that’d have to be in the ‘upper double-digit millions’. It remains to be seen whether United would be willing to spend such a fee on a right-back.
Again, it just comes down to what Ten Hag wants. He will not be able to fill every hole within his squad during this one window, so he has to prioritise. I’d imagine he believes United can get by without signing a right-back for another season, instead moving for a striker and goalkeeper. Both feel like far more pressing needs.
