Man United still have eyes on signing David Raya this summer, though they’re not the frontrunners right now.
Manchester United could look to move in a different direction in between the sticks this summer. David de Gea is yet to sign a new deal in Manchester, with time quickly running out.
Erik ten Hag loves a keeper who can play out from the back. Watching Ederson and Andre Onana in the Champions League final was eye-opening.
The links to new shot-stoppers have been plentiful. Diogo Costa seems to be the top target, while David Raya is also an option.
The Telegraph have provided an update on Raya’s situation at Brentford. The Spain international could be on the move this summer.
According to their report, United ‘remain interested’ in signing the 27-year-old, even though they’re currently behind Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign the goalkeeper.
With a year left on his contract, around £40m should be enough to get the deal done. That’s still somewhat pricey given the contract status, though United need their goalkeeper upgrade now, rather than waiting a year.
In terms of beating out competition from Spurs, it could become somewhat complicated. Raya would have the lure of Champions League football here in Manchester. However, there’s still a chance that De Gea stays at the club, meaning he may have to compete for starts. Is that something he’d want to do?
One thing is clear. United need a goalkeeper who is good with the ball at feet sooner rather than later. Raya has Premier League experience and could slot right into the starting line-up from day one, while he’d have the opportunity to play for the biggest club in the country.
