Will Fish is looking set to join Hibernian on another season-long loan.
Manchester United are gearing up for a massively important pre-season. Erik ten Hag will want to continue this squad’s development, while getting another look at some players for the future.
Charlie Savage, Zidane Iqbal and Kobbie Mainoo are all frontrunners in that regard.
One man who is looking unlikely to feature on tour is Will Fish. The young defender spent last season with Hibernian, enjoying his time North of the border and playing well.
According to the Daily Record, the 20-year-old United starlet is ‘closing on’ on securing a loan return to Hibs for the 2023/24 season. The centre-half liked it so much that he’s seemingly prepared to return.
The Scotland club have agreed a deal with United over Fish, with the defender set to spend twelve more months in the SPL.
First and foremost, this indicates to us that Ten Hag believes Fish is not quite ready for the first-team fold at United. The talent is obviously there. Perhaps he just needs some extra time playing first-team football elsewhere.
Secondly, a move to Hibs is a far more attractive proposition this time around, with the Edinburgh club playing in the Europa Conference League this season. No doubt playing continental football is only a good thing for Fish.
United are well-stocked in the central defensive area right now, hence why it makes sense to let Fish move elsewhere. There’s no point in keeping him around, if he’s only going to play a few minutes here and there over the next twelve months.
Hopefully, this move is confirmed soon, allowing Fish to fully prepare for a massively important season with Hibernian.
