Man United remain keen on signing Kim Min-jae, though nothing is agreed right now.
Manchester United’s pursuit of Napoli centre-back, Kim Min-jae, has been well documented over the last few weeks. We’ve been covering the whole saga here.
The man from South Korea enjoyed an excellent campaign in Serie A, winning the title while also being named Serie A Defender of the Year along the way.
That, understandably, had other top European sides taking notice. United are among those sides who have shown genuine keenness on signing the centre-half.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided us an update on that chase. According to his sources, United ‘remain in the race’ to sign the 26-year-old, though nothing has been agreed at this stage – despite contradictory reports.
Romano also cites Foot Mercato, stating that Bayern Munich are now keen on signing the defender.
Interest in Kim was always going to be plentiful, largely due to the fact that he’d cost just over £40m due to a release clause that becomes active next month. For a player of his calibre, that’s a bargain in the modern-day game.
It’s all going to come down what the player wants. Does he fancy a move to the financially rewarding Premier League? Does he want a guaranteed Bundesliga title over in Germany? Who knows at this stage?
However, what we do know is that United’s interest in Min-jae is definitely genuine. It has been backed up by multiple reputable sources, though we need to temper our expectations as there’s no guarantee we’ll win the race to sign him.
I’d give us a decent chance, particularly as we now have Champions League football on the table.
