Manchester City are closing on the £25million signing of Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
A bid has been submitted for the Croatia international and all parties are hopeful of a conclusion before the end of the week.
City were given permission to speak to the 29-year old at the start of the month, before he went on international duty, to ascertain personal terms.
Kovacic’s departure will bring his five-year spell at Stamford Bridge to an abrupt end, having initially joined on-loan from Real Madrid.
During his time with the club, Kovacic has added a fourth Champions League trophy to the three he won in Madrid, as well as the Europa League in 2019.

The Treble winners are exploring the return of Juanma Lillo to Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff
He has turned out 221 times for the Blues, scoring on six occasions and providing 15 assists.
City will then look to negotiate a deal with Red Bull Leipzig for £88m-rated centre back Josko Gvardiol, Kovacic’s international teammate.
Bayern Munich remain interested in City right back Kyle Walker but he is also in discussions to extend his stay with the Treble winners.
City are exploring the return of coach Juanma Lillo to Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff following the departure of Enzo Maresca, who became the new boss of Leicester City. Lillo, 57, is coaching Al Sadd in Qatar.
