Man United will return with a third offer for Mason Mount.
Manchester United Football Club have been pushing hard to sign Mason Mount over the last fortnight. Just yesterday, we learned that a second bid had been turned down by Chelsea, thought to be worth around £50m.
The Englishman has one year left on his deal at Chelsea, with the player planning on not signing new terms at Stamford Bridge.
Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest on the situation, claiming that United will ‘bid again’ to sign the 24-year-old. Personal terms are said to be 100% agreed and sealed, meaning it’s now solely down to agreeing a price with Chelsea.
As you’d expect, United want a ‘quick resolution’, though that will not rush them into overpaying for a player who would be available for free next summer.
What’s interesting here is that Chelsea’s asking price is starting to come down. They’re now after £60-65m, which is obviously still an awful lot of money given Mount’s contract situation.
At the end of the day, you get the feeling that United want to sign Mount pretty badly. He’s a dynamic footballer who’d improve this squad in many areas. People forget how skilled he is, just because he had a pretty poor 2022/23 campaign.
United must not overpay, though. Funds are already limited this summer, so it’s up to United to ensure that the price is right. There’s no real harm in waiting a year and trying to convince the Englishman to make the move for free in 2024.
Eventually, I do think some common ground will be reached. There’s no way Chelsea will want to lose such a prized asset for nothing. They just have to accept that Mount will be playing for a rival team next season.
