Man United seem to be close to landing the signing of Mason Mount.
Manchester United Football Club have allotted plenty of resources towards a move to sign Mason Mount. The Englishman’s Chelsea future has been up in the air due to a winding down contract.
Now, the Red Devils are seemingly moving towards making Mount their first major signing of the summer.
It’s the Daily Mirror with the report. They claim that United are now ‘closing in’ on a deal to sign the 24-year-old, with the Reds and Chelsea finding middle ground over a transfer, thought to be worth around £60m.
The Reds have seen two offers knocked back, the latest of which was said to be worth around the £50m mark.
Mount himself has been keen on making the transfer, with that now looking like a genuine possibility.
Reds boss, Erik ten Hag, is keen to get the deal wrapped up before pre-season tour, which takes place in early July.
Typically, United have been pretty slow movers in the transfer market under the Glazer family, so I would expect a similar situation to play out here. With that in mind, I wouldn’t expect a deal to happen within the next week or two.
Honestly, I’m looking forward to this move. Mount is a brilliant player, who’ll fit seamlessly into this system due to his work rate, on-ball ability and positional awareness.
Yes, £60m for a man with a year left on contract is pretty steep. However, if Ten Hag has identified Mount as a player who’ll improve this squad, we have to continue to back the manager and trust in his judgements.
