A decision on the future of Amad is yet to be decided, with Erik ten Hag set to have the final say.
Manchester United seem to have an absolute gem of a footballer in Amad.
The young man started his Red Devils career pretty slowly, though a loan to Sunderland last season showcased why the Old Trafford club sanctioned big money to sign him from Atalanta.
Goals, assists, a general threat and a real directness. Amad lit up the Championship with his stunning individual play. It was an absolute joy to watch him play with confidence and belief.
Naturally, we all assumed he’d take the next step and become a part of the Reds’ senior setup. However, that may not be the case. Fabrizio Romano says that the 20-year-old’s future at United is ‘still open’, while a decision will be made in the ‘next weeks’.
He hopes for a first team opportunity, though the final decision will lie with Erik ten Hag.
If United do decide to send Amad out on loan, his preference would be to head back to Sunderland again. No doubt he feels like he has unfinished business with the Black Cats, who fell in the Championship playoffs.
Honestly, at this stage of his career, either feels like a good option. If Amad can become the back-up option to the right-wing position, it may be wise to keep him around as he can learn an awful lot from the coaching staff here in Manchester.
However, regular playing time in the Championship can only help that natural progression. If I’m being super picky, I’d love Amad to be playing Premier League football next term, in order to get used to the pace of the game at the highest level.
As things stand, it feels like pre-season tour is going to be massive for the young man. Impress there and I genuinely do believe he could have a part to play at Old Trafford next term.
