Man United could look to move to sign FC Utrecht midfielder, Taylor Booth.
Erik ten Hag is seemingly in the hunt to sign a new midfielder this summer. That much is obvious given how strenuous the links to Mason Mount have been.
A deal for the Englishman is now somewhat up in the air, with Manchester United now having to broaden their search in the chase to sign a central player.
The latest story on that front comes from the Daily Mail. They believe United are keen on signing Taylor Booth.
According to their headline, United are ‘weighing up’ a move to sign the 22-year-old midfielder. On top of that, Ten Hag is a ‘known admirer’ of the player.
Last summer, the Dutch gaffer displayed a preference to sign players he’s familiar with (Antony, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia). Ten Hag will know Booth well from his time over in the Eredivisie and no doubt he’s been watching him closely this year.
It’s stated that Mount remains the top target, though Booth is an option the Reds are considering. However, they’ll face competition from Celta Vigo, Stuttgart and Lyon to sign the United States international.
Perhaps a younger player is the way to go. United can still put out a top tier midfield in Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen. However, the latter two are getting up there in age now. The club needs to find a long-term replacement for the pair.
Booth is someone who is still learning his trade and he’d only improve by training with that aforementioned trio day-in-day-out.
United will have to act quick, though, as other clubs could make their move for Booth shortly, while United wait around to find out what’s happening with Mount.
