The club have today announced that the 20-year-old striker, who trained with the first-team on occasion last season, has signed a new contract at the club.
The length of the deal has not been disclosed, though the fact he has been offered fresh terms tells you that Ten Hag believes in his ability and talent.
Mejia enjoyed a solid PL2 campaign last season, as he continues to grow as a footballer. Although born in Spain, the young man chose to represent Colombia at international level – making appearances for their U20 side for the first time last December.
Now, it’s about taking that next step. Mejia probably isn’t quite ready for first-team football at Old Trafford just yet. More than likely, he’ll spend the 2023/24 season out on loan.
Before then, I’d give Mejia a small chance at featuring on pre-season tour. I guess it all depends on whether signings are made and whether there’s space in the squad for another youngster.
