Man United have made a proposal for Andre Onana, with that bid set to be official soon.
Mason Mount has been signed by Manchester United, meaning the Red Devils can now move on to other transfer targets in other positions.
Among the needs is a new goalkeeper. David de Gea’s contract has expired. He’s now a free agent with a huge decision to make. In the event that the Spaniard chooses to go elsewhere, United will have to spend big on a new shot-stopper.
Andre Onana is the name that keeps popping up in the media. We expect that to continue for the foreseeable future.
Fabrizio Romano has offered his latest information on the situation. According to the Italian journalist, United have presented their ‘verbal proposal’ to sign the 27-year-old. A £39m total package has been tabled, with add-ons included. That bid will be official ‘soon’.
Inter Milan are expecting a fee totalling around £52m (€60m) to let Onana leave, meaning United and the Serie A club are currently £13m apart.
It’s believed Onana is keen on the move, which would see him reunite with Erik Ten Hag.
This would represent another large chunk of the budget. If you believe the £100-120m, signing both Mount and Onana would be all United could afford before player sales – of which there have not been any, of note anyway, at this stage.
Onana can play with the ball at feet which is exactly what Ten Hag wants from his goalkeeper. It would mean United would enjoy more possession on a game-by-game basis, which feels like the next step this side should take.
I’d argue a goalie is more important than a new striker at this stage. Getting both in would be ideal, though it feels unlikely.
