Man United are closing in on their second addition of the summer, after agreeing a deal to sign Andre Onana.
No sooner had David de Gea confirmed his Manchester United exit, the Red Devils were close to signing a replacement.
Andre Onana’s name has been mentioned pretty frequently by the media over the last few weeks, with the Inter Milan shot-stopper enjoying an excellent debut season over in Italy.
Well, his time in the Serie A is looking like being a short one. Yet again, Erik ten Hag isn’t hanging around in pursuit of his man, with Chris Wheeler from the Daily Mail offered us all a huge update on the saga.
According to Wheeler, United are ‘set to sign’ Onana next week, after agreeing terms with Inter Milan over the transfer.
There has been no fee mentioned by the journo, but you’d imagine it’ll be in the region of around £50m.
It goes without saying, Onana will absolutely transform the way United play the game. He’s so comfortable with the ball at feet, which was De Gea’s biggest weakness. I’d also assume the man from Cameroon has far more command of his penalty area, which will help the whole defence.
Yes, we’re probably losing a little bit of something in the shot-stopping department, as De Gea was the best in the world in that regard.
It is pretty sad to see him leave, though from a business standpoint, it’s absolutely the correct decision at this juncture.
For Onana, it’s now about getting the deal over the line before pre-season well and truly kicks off. The first game is now just five days away. I’d be surprised if Onana features in that one, though hopefully, it’ll all be done shortly after.
