Young forward, Rasmus Hojlund, is doing his bit to force through a move to sign for Man United.
Manchester United have added Mason Mount, while a deal to bring in Andre Onana doesn’t seem too far away. Credit where it’s due, Erik ten Hag and the club are working hard to deliver the manager his targets.
Next up on the agenda is a new striker. The Old Trafford club didn’t have their 20+ goal-a-season striker that they could rely upon last season. That made some games much closer than they should have been.
Harry Kane felt like the prime target. That deal died pretty quickly. Rasmus Hojlund was then identified as a man who could fill the void. The 20-year-old enjoyed an excellent season for Atalanta.
Journalist Alfredo Pedulla has had his finger on the pulse in regard to this move from the early stages. He took to Twitter last night to share an update.
According to him, the player ‘pushes’ to sign for United this summer, with Hojlund doing his bit to make the transfer happen.
Pedulla went on to explain that an attacking signing is set to be ‘investigated’ after the Onana deal is officially confirmed.
Hojlund is intriguing. He’s at the opposite end of the spectrum to Kane, particularly age-wise. The former is just starting his career while the latter is moving into his last couple of seasons as a top tier footballer.
Where longevity is concerned, Hojlund could easily provide a decade-plus of service, all being well. However, it would be a gamble as you never quite know how it’s going to work out for him in a new country, playing for the biggest club in the world. It brings that extra bit of added pressure…
I’m also surprised to see the budget stretch that far. Initially, around £100-120m was available for the gaffer. He’s already spend in excess of £100m on Mason Mount and Onana. Perhaps we should expect some big-name departures over the next few weeks, to offset those costs.
