Man United defender, Harry Maguire, is now weighing up his future plans after losing the armband.
Manchester United Football Club have been moving in a different direction under Erik ten Hag, with the Dutchman putting his own ideologies into place.
Some players have flourished, others have fallen out of favour. Among those who fits into the latter category is Harry Maguire. The Englishman remained club captain last season, though that will change in 2023/24.
The club confirmed that Maguire has had the armband taken away from him just yesterday, with the hunt for his successor now on. Obviously, the Three Lions international was gutted to lose that honour, though he did put out a classy statement on social media.
Now, Sky Sports have provided an update on his future, claiming that the United player is ‘considering his options’ at the club as a result.
Maguire is being ‘closely monitored’ by clubs in the Premier League and abroad, though it seems like West Ham are the early frontrunners. United’s Premier League rival are said to be ‘exploring’ a transfer for the 30-year-old defender, be it a permanent move or a loan.
It’s early stages, though Maguire’s hefty wages could be a problem for the London club. That’s a story we’ve all seen before where United are concerned…
The final decision rests with Maguire. It’s all up to the player and what he wants. First and foremost, he deserves credit for not kicking up a fuss about this. Instead, he’s remained as classy as possible, highlighting just what a good bloke he is.
Whatever choice he makes, we have to respect that. If he’s happy being a fourth choice centre-back at United for another year, then so be it. However, if he pushes for a transfer, that would also make sense too.
