Bruno Fernandes is all set to be named the new captain of Man United.
Yesterday, it was confirmed that Manchester United had taken the captain’s armband off Harry Maguire. It was somewhat expected, given the fact the Englishman has fallen down the pecking order over the last twelve months.
Maguire is now believed to be ‘considering his options’ at the club, which also makes sense as losing the armband would not have been easy to take.
It seems as though the club are not hanging around, with A Bola via The Metro, claiming that Erik ten Hag has already chosen his new United captain, with Bruno Fernandes ‘set to be confirmed’ as the new club leader.
The man from Portugal has been arguably United’s most vocal player ever since walking through the entrance door. It always felt like he was among the prime candidates for the role – and that belief grew as soon as David de Gea’s exit was confirmed.
Bruno has displayed leadership qualities over the last twelve months, wearing the armband whenever Maguire was not on the field.
Our Portuguese Magnifico feels like the right choice for the role, with the midfielder now being bestowed with the honour on a permanent basis.
If I’m being picky, I’d love to see a little less of the on-field antics from Bruno now that he’s captain, as at times, he can send out the wrong message to his teammates.
On the whole, though, this feels like the logical decision. Bruno is undoubtedly United’s most important player in an attacking sense and the fact that the Maguire situation is no longer hanging overhead is only a good thing for all involved.
Let’s hope United confirm this decision soon.
