Man United are set to receive a nice transfer fee for Dean Henderson, with a Nottingham Forest move looking close.
Manchester United are set to sign Andre Onana from Inter this summer, with the man from Cameroon all set to become the Reds’ new number one.
David de Gea is a thing of the past, with the future looking bright under Erik ten Hag. Alongside Onana, the Old Trafford side may have to dip their toes in the water for another back-up goalkeeper.
Why, you ask? Well, Dean Henderson is looking set to follow De Gea out of the exit door.
It’s the Daily Mail with the story, who state that the 26-year-old is ‘closing in on a move’ away from United. He’s looking set to head to Nottingham Forest, in a deal that could be worth up to £20m in terms of transfer fee.
Hendo found minutes hard to come by since coming through the academy at United, though last season, the Englishman enjoyed success on loan with Forest in the first half of the season – before picking up an injury.
United are now looking to pocket a sizable transfer fee for a player who is not in Ten Hag’s long-term plans. This deal for Henderson will be concluded following Onana’s arrival at Old Trafford.
This feels like a smart piece of business, as Henderson’s contract is winding down. United will not get this sort of offer for the Englishman after this summer. So it makes sense to cash in now.
United have also taken the decision to tie Tom Heaton down to another one-year contract, which further points to a Henderson exit on a permanent deal.
That said, I still wouldn’t mind seeing another body come in and join the goalkeeper ranks this summer. Either that, or give young Maej Kovar a promotion.
