Our predicted MUFC XI for the Reds’ second pre-season game vs Lyon is now in.
Pre-season is now well underway for Manchester United, with Erik ten Hag’s side beating Leeds United 2-0 in their opening friendly game. A young-looking squad flew out to Norway for that one, with the main group of players yet to return.
We’re to expect the same again here. The senior lads returned to training on Saturday, though this game will come too soon for those guys. They’ll likely start taking the bulk-load of the minutes during the US leg of the tour.
That said, I tend to enjoy these games for that very reason. You’re getting a true glimpse into the future when you watch these young guys in action. Lyon will provide a tough test for the next generation over in Edinburgh tomorrow.
Anyway, after much deliberation, we’ve drawn up our predicted XI for this one. With it being pre-season, we advise you just take this with a pinch of salt as literally anything can happen, but let’s get right into it.

Tom Heaton remains the only senior goalkeeper at the club right now, so I’d imagine he’ll start here.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka will play in the right-back position, with the Englishman looking to continue his good form. Alvaro Fernandez looks to have a bright future. He will play on the left. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane will continue their partnership at the heart of the back four.
Kobbie Mainoo was the stand-out performer in the opener for me. I am super excited to see more of him. He will play alongside Mason Mount in those deeper spots, with Hannibal getting the nod slightly further forward.
Joe Hugill scored in the second 45, and with a lack of senior strikers available, it makes sense to see what he’s got from the start here. To his right and left respectively will be Amad and Jadon Sancho.
