Man United are ready to step up their interest in Atalanta forward, Rasmus Hojlund.
Manchester United are working efficiently this summer. Gone seem to be the days of panic buying as a transfer window winds down. Erik ten Hag seems to have whipped the staff into shape.
A move for Mason Mount is done. Andre Onana will be a Red Devil this week. Now, attention turns to acquiring a new number nine.
Rasmus Hojlund has been the name most linked with the role, following the news that a deal to sign Harry Kane looks unlikely.
The Daily Mail have provided the latest on that front, claiming United will ‘pick up talks’ with Hojlund’s current club, Atalanta, over signing the striker.
With a fee for Onana set to be around the £41m mark, United now have more money in their budget to work on a deal for Hojlund.
So far, Reds’ attempts to sign the young Dane have been rebuffed, with Atalanta valuing the young star at £86m. They believe young centre-forwards with his talent are at a premium right now.
Fear not. According to the Daily Mail, a fee of around £65m may ‘bear fruit’ for United to sign Hojlund, though that’s still a large transfer fee to pay for a player who is still so young.
Hojlund himself has made it clear he wants to join United, while he has also agreed to a short-term representation deal with SEG – the same agents as Ten Hag.
A new striker is an absolute must this summer. The club simply cannot rely on Anthony Martial, while Hojlund would add more youth to a squad that is jam-packed with talent right now.
Will a deal be done? It’s still too soon to say.
