Man United fans should not expect to see Andre Onana in Man United colours before Wednesday.
Manchester United have been chasing Andre Onana pretty hard ever since the David de Gea news broke.
The superstar Spaniard gave us an incredible decade of service, though the time felt right to move away from the 32-year-old.
Erik ten Hag has been surrounding himself with familiarity. Look at the deals for Antony and Lisandro Martinez. Now, the Dutchman is back in the market for another former player.
The man from Cameroon enjoyed an outstanding season at Inter, with United chasing his services for the last few weeks.
A deal now looks like a matter of ‘when’, rather than an ‘if’. Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on that front, claiming that there is an ‘expectation’ the deal will be complete later this week. Onana’s medical tests and contract signing is set to take place on either Wednesday or Thursday.
In an earlier tweet, Romano added that United are ‘busy’ preparing documents on the player’s side, while Onana remains in Milan with their club camp. The 27-year-old is patiently waiting to travel to England to complete the deal.
From a fan standpoint, there is no need to panic. This deal will happen. It’s just a waiting game. Obviously, the sooner it’s done, the better it is for all involved.
Onana will need time to adapt into his new surroundings, while learning to play with these new players will take time. If he can start to understand their game during pre-season, it’d mean United could hit the ground running when the serious stuff starts in August.
Hopefully, we see the photo of him holding that United shirt aloft before the end of the week.
