Axel Disasi is a genuine possibility for Man United at the centre-back position.
Manchester United Football Club decided to strip Harry Maguire of the captaincy over the weekend, with the Red Devils looking to move in a different direction.
Whether or not the Englishman will leave Old Trafford is another matter entirely. The decision is firmly in his hands, particularly due to the high wages he’s currently on.
Journalist Florian Plettenberg believes that United ‘would like’ to sell Maguire, while also offering some information on a possible replacement in the form of Axel Disasi.
According to Plettenberg, the 25-year-old is named as a ‘serious option’ for United and Erik ten Hag this summer, though you get the feeling it’s dependent on what happens with Maguire.
The Frenchman enjoyed an excellent season in 2022/23, while also earning himself some international caps. It’s easy to see why the Reds would be keen on bringing in that quality.
West Ham seem to be the frontrunners for Maguire, though whether they can afford the ex-Leicester City man remains up in the air. You’d imagine United would prefer to move on from him, however, they will not push him out of the exit door.
Disasi would allow United to get younger in that position of the field. He’s also someone who fits into this system stylistically. Factor in the possibility that he could be the long-term replacement for Raphael Varane and you see why it’s a move that Ten Hag would be keen on making.
I’d imagine this deal isn’t at the forefront of United minds right now, though it could be if Maguire does depart the Theatre of Dreams.
