Andre Onana is now in Manchester, after travelling to England earlier this evening.
Manchester United Football Club are not hanging around this summer. Mason Mount has been added, while in Andre Onana, Erik ten Hag has found his new number one goalkeeper.
At this stage, a deal feels pretty much complete, minus the official announcement and signing of the contract.
Fabrizio Romano has been on the story since day one, with the Italian providing yet another update on the saga.
According to his sources, the player ‘will travel to Manchester’ this evening, in order to finalise his United transfer. Judging by Romano’s timings, the Cameroonian should already be on UK shores by the time you’re reading this.
Romano adds that the medical and contract signing will take place soon. Between Wednesday and Tuesday. We’re unsure if the journalist actually means between Wednesday and Thursday, or whether he means the signing could happen any time between now and next Tuesday.
That said, a deal is practically complete. The two clubs have agreed a fee. The player has agreed to his contract and it’s now just a waiting game until it’s all official and confirmed.
Credit where it’s due, the club have acted swiftly to push this one over the line – and at a super reasonable price for a player of Onana’s calibre, too.
Now it’s about getting the deal done as soon as possible, in order for Onana to head out on pre-season tour with the rest of his new teammates. That settling-in period will need to happen in these friendly matches, as the 27-year-old brings a completely contrasting style to De Gea.
Hopefully, we’re not kept waiting too much longer.
