Alex Telles looks set to be the first major name to be sold by Man United this summer.
Manchester United Football Club are trying to continue their squad overhaul this summer, with Erik ten Hag looking to add some extra quality to the dressing room.
To offset those big-money signings, players will have to be sold. A little weekly money going off the wage bill is never a bad thing, particularly when these players are deemed surplus to requirements.
One man who fits into that bracket is Alex Telles. Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest on that front. According to the Italian, Saudi Arabian club, Al Nassr, are ‘closing in’ on a deal to sign the 30-year-old United player.
There’s a ‘verbal agreement’ in place, with both parties now just waiting for the documents to be checked and signed.
Telles spent last season on loan at Sevilla, winning a trophy for the Spanish side.
I just assumed another loan deal would be sanctioned, with United subsidising his wages as no club in their right mind would pay his £93k-a-week wages for the next couple of seasons.
What’s crazy is that not only will Al Nassr match those wages, they’ll probably increase them. Telles is now winding down his career and this will be a huge payday for the Brazilian and his family.
Credit must go to the Saudi league, too. They’re making major signings on a weekly basis right now, seriously strengthening the quality they have in their division.
Hopefully, the deal is done soon. This likely means Alvaro Fernandez moves up the pecking order on a permanent basis. The Spaniard is mega-talented and I’d love to see him utilised more.
