Andre Onana is now undergoing his Man United medical, ahead of linking up with his new teammates in the United States.
Manchester United are set to play their second tour game any minute now, though ahead of that fixture, we’ve some big news to bring you.
It comes from Sky Sports News, who state that the Reds are closing in on the signing of Andre Onana. The 27-year-old is ‘currently undergoing’ his United medical, ahead of joining up with his new teammates for the United States leg of the tour.
The man from Cameroon always felt like Erik ten Hag’s number one option to fill the goalkeeper void at the Theatre of Dreams. Now, it looks like the Dutchman is about to get his man, acquiring Onana from Inter.
Credit where it’s due, the club have worked tirelessly to get this done, for what looks like a very reasonable transfer fee, too.
Onana will absolutely transform the way United play the game. He’ll be able to play out from the back at a high level, while also showing a serious command of his penalty area.
What we lose in shot-stopping ability when David de Gea departed, we’ll make up for it with more possession and hopefully, more goals.
The cherry on top of the cake is the fact that Onana is looking like being ready to play a real part in pre-season, meaning his new teammates will feel comfortable with their new goalkeeper before the serious stuff starts next month.
I cannot understate how much of a game-changer this will be for the Old Trafford side. We’re going to seriously enjoy watching Onana play.
