Bayern Munich added a new defender to the squad this week as Kim Min-jae completed a move to Bavaria. The South Korean defender will be replacing Lucas Hernandez in the squad. The French international left Bayern a few days ago to join Paris Saint-Germain after four successful years in the Bundesliga.
Die Roten is expected to add at least one more defender to the squad before the end of the transfer window. Manchester City’s Kyle Walker is a top target for Die Roten. The English defender has verbally agreed to join the Bundesliga champions, but the fee is yet to be agreed between two clubs.
According to Sky Sports in Germany and Sport1, Kyle Walker has told Manchester City and Pep Guardiola that he wants to join Bayern this summer. The English defender has been included in the squad for the pre-season tour of Asia. Die Roten needs to negotiate with Manchester City to complete the signing.
Manchester City and Bayern are set to meet in a pre-season friendly next Wednesday in Japan. Talks may take place between the two clubs during this game. A medical will not be a problem for Die Roten to complete for Walker during the tour.
Bayern is expected to make an offer for the English full-back sooner rather than later after agreeing personal terms. Walker is likely to be a direct replacement for Benjamin Pavard in the squad. The French defender is expected to leave Munich this summer as he enters finals 12 months of his current deal.
Interestingly, Manchester City has shown interest in Pavard. In such a scenario, Bayern may demand cash plus Walker for the French defender if Manchester City’s interest is concrete. Manchester United and Juventus have also been heavily linked with Benjamin Pavard.
Walker will provide quality depth in the right-back position. He will compete with Noussair Mazraoui in this role if a move to Bayern materializes. The English defender can also operate as a center-back in a back three. He is used to playing in a back three for England. Moreover, Walker also brings a winning mentality to the squad after winning every possible trophy at Manchester City.
