Andre Onana – Showcased his passing abilities from the first minute. Had good command of his area. His starting position was excellent. Made a good save to deny Vinicius Jr. 7/10
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Played in a variety of different positions including midfield at one point. Was solid in defence against Vinicius Jr for the most part. 6/10
Raphael Varane – Looked solid enough against an excellent Madrid front line. Did his individual duties well. 6/10
Lisandro Martinez – Picked up a booking for a hefty tackle on Bellingham. Played well enough. Defended aggressively. 6/10
Luke Shaw – Looked like a player with not many minutes under his belt. Was not as energetic as his opposite number. 4/10
Casemiro – Not his finest outing. Was caught high up as the Madrid midfielders broke away on more than one occasion. 4/10
Kobbie Mainoo – Subbed off after three minutes with injury.
Mason Mount – Deployed higher up the field. Pressed well enough. Didn’t really get into many genuine goalscoring positions. 5/10
Bruno Fernandes – Played on the right-wing. It’s just not a natural position to him and that was pretty obvious. 5/10
Alejandro Garnacho – Looked lively and enthusiastic. Continues to show the inconsistencies of youth when it comes to his decision-making. 6/10
Marcus Rashford – Started up top in another Ten Hag experiment. He was ok. Missed one big chance but didn’t really get into the game at times. 5/10
Subs:
Diogo Dalot – Did his job well enough when brought on.
Victor Lindelof – Played nicely for around 30 minutes. Continued his good form from last season.
Harry Maguire – Booed for some weird reason. Played ok.
Brandon Williams – Steady for the most part though was caught out on one occasion.
Christian Eriksen – Pretty poor in truth.
Scott McTominay – Tried to be adventurous and get United moving on the front foot.
Donny van de Beek – Didn’t really get into it.
Facundo Pellistri – Played on the left and looked sharp enough.
Antony – Created a couple of half-chances.
Jadon Sancho – Used in that false nine role again. It didn’t really work.
