Man United have held initial talks with Fiorentina over potentially signing Sofyan Amrabat.
Manchester United’s number one priority right now has to be a new striker, though alongside that, the Red Devils could make the move to bring in a midfielder.
The Old Trafford club aren’t actively searching to bring in a central player, though they may have to dip their toes into the water, assuming someone will leave.
Brazil international Fred could absolutely be on the way out, meaning United’s hand may be forced in the midfielder market.
Sofyan Amrabat is among the names linked with potentially filling that void. The Morocco international had himself a stunning World Cup, coupled with an excellent season domestically for Fiorentina.
Sky Sports have provided an update on United’s potential move for Amrabat, with their reporter, Dharmesh Sheth, stating United have held ‘early talks’ over signing the midfielder.
Again, it’s reiterated that nothing is firm right now, with any deal dependent on outgoings.
It’s added that the player himself would be ‘keen’ on a Reds transfer this summer. Amrabat is obviously ready to make the step up to the next level at this stage in his career.
Again, it’s another case of Ten Hag trying to surround himself with familiarity. The Dutchman managed Amrabat during their time together at FC Utrecht way back when, and the boss will know his strengths inside-out.
This would be a definite upgrade to the squad. Fred has often blown hot and cold over the last few years, while Amrabat would add extra quality to a midfield area that has been a little inconsistent.
We shouldn’t expect to hear anything imminent on this front, but it feels like one to keep an eye on.
