Man United are moving closer to reaching a deal to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta.
Manchester United have signed a goalkeeper and midfielder. Two big needs have been filled. However, the other glaring hole within the squad was a top tier striker. That problem still remains – at least for the time being…
Harry Kane was linked. That deal died pretty early. Then, focus seemed to turn to Rasmus Hojlund. The young man enjoyed an impressive season for Atalanta, showcasing his talents and emerging as a potential star of the future.
Erik ten Hag has spent the last few weeks chasing the young Dane, though negotiations with the Serie A club are proving difficult. The two sides seem far away in regard to their valuation of Hojlund.
The good news? Sky Sports claim that United are now ‘edging closer’ to signing the forward, with the sides working on a compromise over a transfer fee.
What’s interesting is that Atalanta are now closing in on a deal to sign a new striker, which could free up United’s move to bring Hojlund in.
With the transfer budget being stretched to its limits right now, I understand United’s unwillingness to overspend. Though if Hojlund is the man they want, then the club simply have to go out there and get him.
It may be dependent on player sales first. The likes of Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Fred and Donny van de Beek have all been linked with a transfer away. All could generate some decent funds, on top of the money received for Anthony Elanga.
Let’s hope that budget can bring in Hojlund. We’re crying out for a forward who we can rely upon.
