Man United are looking to hand Facundo Pellistri a new contract, before sending him out on loan.
Manchester United’s pre-season is over, with preparation now well underway for the opening game against Wolverhampton Wanderers in one week today.
Alongside planning for that Old Trafford showdown, Erik ten Hag is still working behind the scenes in the transfer market – both in terms of incoming and outgoings.
The club have several decisions to make in regard to loaning players out. You always suspected Facundo Pellistri would fall into that category.
Fabrizio Romano has shared his latest information on the future of the young man from Uruguay. He claims that United are ‘making progress’ in contract talks with the young starlet. Ensuring the winger signs a new long-term deal is a priority right now.
When those terms are agreed, the club will then let Pellistri leave on loan, with FC Twente ‘pushing’ to bring in the attacker on a season-long deal.
Check out Fabrizio Romano’s tweet here:
As things stand, Pellistri is probably fourth choice on that right-hand side, so a loan move does make sense as he looks to continue his development.
It is telling that United want to sign Pellistri to a new deal first. Ten Hag is clearly a big believer in his ability, which is encouraging for the player in the long-term.
Now, it’s about finding the right club for Pellistri. We’d all prefer him to stay in England. Perhaps a lower end Premier League side or a higher tier Championship team, though those offers do not seem to be there right now.
FC Twente would allow Pellistri to play Eredivisie and Europa Conference League football. No doubt that would help his development.
