Man United did have talks about potentially signing Everton midfielder, Amadou Onana.
Manchester United’s next move in the transfer market seems somewhat obvious – the Red Devils want to sign another midfielder.
Several names have been linked with filling that void, though nothing will happen until one (or more) players are sold first. Erik ten Hag is now in a situation where he has to sell before he can buy. That’s not ideal.
Sofyan Amrabat has been the name most-linked with making the move to Old Trafford, though the man from Morocco isn’t the only option the club is looking at.
The Daily Mail’s latest Transfer Confidential provided an interesting glimpse into other targets. Including Everton’s Amadou Onana.
According to the story, United ‘held discussions’ about potentially moving to sign the 21-year-old midfielder, who enjoyed a good season for Everton in the Premier League. Those talks did not progress, while Leeds United’s Tyler Adams was another name discussed.
Onana looked superb in the games against United. Dare I say he’d be the perfect midfielder for this Red Devils side?
It’s somewhat disappointing to hear that those internal talks didn’t go any further, though perhaps it’s something to do with asking price. You pay a premium when you sign fellow Premier League players, which is why Amrabat appears to be atop the list still.
Again, though, it just reiterates the need for the club to bring in a top level player who can replace the likes of Casemiro and Mason Mount when they need a rest.
The player profile United are looking at is someone who can bring extra energy to the side, which would make sense given the club’s willingness to shift on Fred, who is a super mobile player.
