Man United will not let Hannibal Mejbri leave the club on a permanent basis this summer.
Manchester United have some pretty big decisions to make this summer, regarding the setup of their squad.
The Red Devils have many fringe players who aren’t good enough, though they’re struggling to move on from these players. Erik ten Hag also has some choices to make about the younger players who are knocking on the first team door.
It seems as though Kobbie Mainoo has done enough to force his way in, though Hannibal Mejbri remains in limbo.
The good news? According to the MEN, United are ‘not planning’ the sale of the 20-year-old midfielder this summer. That’s after Borussia Dortmund showed interest in Hannibal, in a £15m deal.
Sides in both England and France have also shown a keenness on signing the Tunisia international, either permanently or on loan.
United’s plan was always to let the midfielder prove himself during the tour, while Hannibal ‘impressed club figures’ with his level of performance during the pre-season.
It’s stated that Ten Hag is ‘a fan’ of Hannibal’s, though doubts remain over his role, in regard to what sort of first-team minutes he’d be given.
The verdict
Hannibal is talented, though if he stays around, his development could be halted. A loan move away feels like the best strategy for Hannibal. If he does well on a year-long deal elsewhere, there’s every chance he’s in a position to challenge for minutes at United next season.
Luton Town have shown an interest in the midfielder. That would be a pretty good situation for the young man to be in. He’d also be relatively close to Manchester, which is an added bonus.
